Engineering a Better World Project

The Regional Celebration For the Engineering a Better World Project will take place once again at the E.I. on the 4th of July at the Elvington Air Museum and this year it will be bigger than ever.

The Engineering a Better World project is an Engineering and Physical Science Research Council project designed to change students perception of Engineering as a career.

Ten schools, five from the City of York and Five from schools in North Yorkshire are taking part in the project with the aim of integrating work between the Science, Technology and Mathematics departments in schools. In their Technology departments the students have been working on three different practical projects: a Mechathlete to take part in a Mechathlon, a hand controlled Mini-Robot wars robot to take part in a knock-out competition, and a Robot Sumo Wrestler to take part in a Basho. The Science and Mathematics departments have been backing up the students with the theory behind each of the projects and in some cases helping out with the practical as well.

There will be three finals at E.I. this year:

The excitement should be intense and not to be missed.
